Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT), University of Canterbury, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa te Kuratini o Ngā Waka and Seafood Industry Training Organisation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to co-operate together to achieve the following objectives.
Horoirangi Education Objectives

To achieve the vision of Horoirangi to be a place of knowledge generation and integrated learning, providing research programmes, enhanced secondary and higher education pathways, vocational and industry training courses.

To offer vertically integrated learning by establishing effective networks and education programmes in the areas of marine science, seafood science, aquaculture and maritime industries through working together to provide enhanced secondary and higher education pathways and vocational and industry training courses.

To drive the future of the seafood and aquaculture industry by working together to strengthen and expand research capabilities with strong industry linkages through the co-operation in research programmes involving post-graduate students, academic staff in collaboration with industry partners.

To equip people with knowledge of Maori heritage, language and culture.

To raise public understanding and appreciation of New Zealand’s unique marine environment through community engagement and education.
Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) and Horoirangi
To draw on the facilities and staff resources of the new established Research and Development and Education facility, NMIT has developed a practical teaching and learning laboratory and lecture room which will allow students to work alongside scientists, researchers and industry in a working and applied science environment.
NMIT are committed to sharing this resource with others, to ensure delivery of programmes and training will meet the needs of industry.
